OVERVIEW - Time away from blog and some supply info

Has it really been over three "wheeks" since I last posted? Well, yes, it has, and I have been busy! I've had two exams so far this semester in the pre-vet back to school thing and so far, so good. So, studying is taking up a HUGE chunk of time. But it is definitely paying off.

I am also still working with City Critters every other weekend and helping out at The Art Farm in the City when needed, so I am pretty crazy now, but very happy. Speaking of the Art Farm....if you have kids younger than 8 years old, the "farm" will be open 8am-11am this Sunday and I will be there helping out - and yes, I will be in costume! So, bring your kids ($15 per child, $5 per adult) and we'll have fun feeding the animals! : ) I'll try to remember to take some pix and post them so you can see all the fun we are having.

As for animal info....right now Drs. Foster and Smith is having a huge Halloween clearance sale and I've seen some good stuff in their cat/dog and small animal catalogs. So, take a look online at http://www.drsfosterandsmith.com/ if you have a critter that needs some supplies. Their prices on toys, treats, bowls, and bedding is usually the cheapest I can find, so it is a good place to explore.

Also, if you have a chinchilla or know someone who does, please tell them about the great folks at http://www.chinworld.com/. They have put together an economic "monthly pack" that will allow you to take care of your chinchilla for 30 days without hurting your wallet - and the brands on supplies they use are top notch! They know how hard some people have been hit by the economy and how much people love their chinchillas. So, they created this package so you can take great care of your little guy and not have to give him/her up b/c of the cost of care.

I've had a friend asking about where to get new food bowls for her kitties and it got me thinking about places that I've found some of mine. The best places have been online really, or small independent pet supply stores. I found my cat's current bowl set at a great place in Manhattan called Bark Place. It is on 72nd Street, between York and First Ave. It is a cute pet boutique, but mostly dog stuff.  Check it out if in the neighborhood. There is also the Jumping Bulldog in Astoria, Queens (my stomping ground) on 23rd Aveue (around 27th/28th Street) for cute pet boutique items. Both are worth a visit if around the areas.

Well, that is all for now....until I think of something else!

MISC/BOOK: The Art Farm in the City, new book about the Vick dogs, Catnip newsletter

Good Morning folks!

Just a few pieces of info that I thought you might enjoy knowing about:

1. There is a great place to take kids 8 years and younger on the "wheek"ends. It is The Art Farm in the City - located on 91st Street, between York and 1st Ave (NYC). http://www.theartfarms.com/ They have a program on Sat/Sun mornings called "Mornings on the Farm" that I have helped out with since 2008. It is a great place for kids to handle and learn about animals. I highly recommend it, especially if your child hasn't met animals before and you would like to teach them about being compassionate and nice to other creatures. Each child also gets their own food basket so they can help the "farmer" feed all the animals.

2. A new book called "The Lost Dogs" has been released and it is about the dogs that were rescued from the Michael Vick dog fighting circle. I haven't read it yet, but the story was so tragic that I know I will want to hear more about the redemption these doggies received from rescuers.

3. There is a newsletter called Catnip (published by Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University) that is called "the newsletter for caring cat owners". It was introduced to me by one of my friends at City Critters and it is a great resource for cat lovers. You can take a look at it and get a free issue by visiting http://www.tuftscatnip.com/.

That is all I have time for right now, but stay tuned for pictures from last week's Strut your Muttt event, my trip to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary and info about a new book published by a friend of City Critters!

Take care of yourselves and your furry/feathered friends!
